The Short Version
The Eredivisie sits with ESPN, sold as a package on top of a Ziggo or KPN line. The Champions League is on Ziggo Sport. This ranking is built from published specs, channel lineups and how each service positions itself — not a claim of independent lab testing. It's weighted toward the things that actually ruin an evening: channel depth, stream stability under peak load, on-demand library, device coverage, support responsiveness and price.
We load streams at the busiest moment of the local sporting week, not at a convenient hour. Frame drops, buffering and stream failures under real load decide most of the ranking.
A channel listed in the guide has to actually resolve and carry what the guide says it does. Padded lineups full of dead entries score badly however large the headline number.
Programme data has to match the broadcaster's published schedule. A guide that shows yesterday's listings is a daily annoyance that no channel count compensates for.
We check Fire TV Stick, Android TV, Smart TV apps, iOS and MAG boxes, including older hardware that plenty of households are still running.
We contact support during an outage window rather than at 10am on a Tuesday. A ticket queue that answers in two days is not support for live television.
Every service should let you test before paying, and state clearly what renews at what price. Anything opaque about billing loses points.
Channel Lineup
A Dutch lineup needs the full NPO public tier, the RTL and Talpa commercial networks, and all three sports platforms. Anything missing from this list is a gap you will notice within a fortnight.
Live Sport
Dutch sport is a three-way split and everybody knows it. ESPN holds the Eredivisie and sells it as an add-on through Ziggo and KPN. Ziggo Sport carries the Champions League and Formula 1 highlights. Viaplay took the live Formula 1 rights, and in a country where Max Verstappen turned a niche motorsport into appointment television, that single acquisition reshaped the Dutch pay-TV market.
Speed skating deserves its own mention because it is genuinely a national sport here in a way it is nowhere else. The NOS carries the major championships free to air, while other events run on Viaplay. During a big skating weekend in Heerenveen, Dutch streaming traffic behaves the way British traffic does during a Premier League Saturday.
For an IPTV service the test is simple enough: load ESPN 1 on a Sunday evening during an Eredivisie fixture, load Ziggo Sport on a Champions League Tuesday, and load the Formula 1 feed on a race Sunday. Those three moments cover almost all of the Dutch peak-load year.

The Real Numbers
A Dutch household that wants the Eredivisie, the Champions League and Formula 1 needs a base TV bundle plus ESPN Compleet plus Viaplay plus Ziggo Sport Totaal. That comes to roughly €80 to €105 a month — for three sports and a set of channels that were largely free to air a generation ago.
IPTV subscriptions from the seven services here generally cost €40 to €170 for a full year. Given how good Dutch fibre is, the technical experience at the top of this list is genuinely comparable to the incumbent platforms, which is not something we would say about every market on this site.

Legal Status
IPTV as a technology is entirely legal in the Netherlands and forms the backbone of KPN's TV service, NPO Start and Videoland.
Unauthorised distribution of copyrighted content is illegal, and Dutch enforcement is notably vigorous. BREIN, the rights-holder foundation, has pursued a long series of cases against IPTV resellers and sellers of pre-loaded boxes, and Dutch courts have generally supported it. BREIN has historically targeted operators and resellers, but it has also pursued individuals reselling subscriptions.

Before You Buy
Many services list a generic 'ESPN' channel that maps to the wrong feed. The Eredivisie rotates across ESPN 1, 2, 3 and 4 depending on the fixture, so confirm all four resolve correctly before you buy an annual plan.
Formula 1 weekends generate the sharpest traffic spike in Dutch streaming. If a service holds a clean 4K feed through a Grand Prix start, it will handle almost anything else you throw at it.
A large on-demand number means little if the catalogue is entirely American. Browse for Dutch series and films during the trial and see what is actually there.
Dutch connections are fast enough for 4K almost everywhere, but Wi-Fi in older apartment buildings is often the real bottleneck. Run the test over Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi before blaming the service.
