This ranking is built from published specs, channel lineups and how each service positions itself — not a claim of independent lab testing. It's weighted toward the things that actually ruin an evening: channel depth, stream stability under peak load, on-demand library, device coverage, support responsiveness and price.
We load streams at the busiest moment of the local sporting week, not at a convenient hour. Frame drops, buffering and stream failures under real load decide most of the ranking.
A channel listed in the guide has to actually resolve and carry what the guide says it does. Padded lineups full of dead entries score badly however large the headline number.

Canal+, historically the home of French football, walked away from the domestic league entirely while keeping the Champions League.
Rugby is the other pillar and it is more stable. The Top 14 sits with Canal+, the Champions Cup is shared, and the Six Nations runs on France Télévisions — free to air, which is why the Tournoi remains the most-watched sporting event in France most years. The Tour de France stays on France Télévisions too, and Roland-Garros splits between France TV and Amazon.
For an IPTV service in France, the practical test is whether Canal+ Foot, beIN Sports and the DAZN Ligue 1 feeds all appear in the same guide and all work on a Sunday at 20:45. That is the moment French infrastructure is under maximum strain, and it separates the top of this list from the bottom quickly.

A French household that wants Ligue 1, the Champions League and the Canal+ film catalogue is currently looking at a DAZN subscription plus beIN Sports plus Canal+ — comfortably €60 to €90 a month, on top of the box TV already bundled with the internet line. Over a season that is a serious sum for what is, in the end, one football league and some films.

IPTV itself is legal in France and widely used — every box TV from Orange, SFR, Free and Bouygues is an IPTV service in the technical sense, and myCANAL and france.tv are too.
Distributing or accessing copyrighted broadcasts without authorisation is a different matter.
