This ranking is built from published specs, channel lineups and how each service positions itself — not a claim of independent lab testing. It's weighted toward the things that actually ruin an evening: channel depth, stream stability under peak load, on-demand library, device coverage, support responsiveness and price.
We load streams at the busiest moment of the local sporting week, not at a convenient hour. Frame drops, buffering and stream failures under real load decide most of the ranking.
A channel listed in the guide has to actually resolve and carry what the guide says it does. Padded lineups full of dead entries score badly however large the headline number.
Programme data has to match the broadcaster's published schedule. A guide that shows yesterday's listings is a daily annoyance that no channel count compensates for.

Winter sport is not a category in Norway, it is the category. Cross-country skiing, biathlon and ski jumping draw audiences that no summer sport comes close to matching, and NRK carries the great majority of it free to air. A World Championship weekend in Holmenkollen or Trondheim generates the heaviest concentrated viewing of the Norwegian year, and any service marketed here that does not carry NRK1 and NRK2 reliably has failed at the first hurdle.
Football is the other pillar and it is commercially split. TV 2 holds the Eliteserien and, significantly, the Premier League — Norway's affection for English football is long-standing and deep, with organised supporter clubs for English teams that predate most of the current Premier League era. Viaplay carries a broad international football portfolio alongside it.
Handball deserves a mention too, particularly the women's national team, which is among the most successful in the sport and draws NRK audiences comparable to men's football. For an IPTV service in Norway, the test window is a Saturday afternoon with Premier League fixtures running and, in season, a Sunday with the Eliteserien and a World Cup skiing event overlapping.
